Welcome to the Kolelemook Lake Protective Association (KLPA). KLPA is dedicated to the preservation of Kolelemook Lake water quality and stewardship of its watershed and surrounding lake shore. Please feel free to join us in this effort by submitting your membership information. "Link" KLPA meetings are usually held on Saturday mornings in mid-June and Late August, in the Town Office Building, Protectworth Meeting Room, at 9:30 AM (refreshments at 9 AM) ending by 11 AM. We welcome anyone interested in supporting our efforts to keep Kolelemook clean!
Kolelemook Lake is revered for it's beauty and provides year round recreation for Springfield residents and visitors from across the country. Fishing, swimming, sailing, kayaking, water skiing, ice fishing, ice skating and cross country skiing are among the pleasures provided. KLPA members volunteer their time and resources to ensure that those who use the lake care for its future and contribute to its conservation. In this effort KLPA members staff the our preservation programs - Lake Host, Weed Watcher and Water Sampling. KLPA also sponsors community events on the lake such as the Family Fishing contests on Springfield Old Home Day and various social activities.
Among the most important elements in the preservation of any New Hampshire lake are care taking the watershed and the shoreline. Kolelemook is located in the same watershed as Eastman Lake. Our focus is the primary watershed feeds to Kolelemook Lake. For example in 2008 we worked with the New Hampshire Department of Transportation to establish a low roadway salt application zone on the roadways adjacent to the lake. Since then the conductivity levels in the lake have been falling indicating lower chloride content in the water. While the Lake Association has been urging members who own shoreline property to heed recommendations for property management and landscaping to control runoff into the lake, much remains to be done. Members, and all watershed residents are referred to the NH Lakes publication "A guide to wise lake and watershed stewardship" for guidance on helping to maintain Kolelemook"s water quality by wise land use practices. In addition any shoreline activity - construction, additions, renovations, should review New Hampshire's Shoreline Regulations and permitting procedures early in the planning stage so that the project planning can incorporate required elements and proceed smoothly. Protect the Lake! It is a wonderful gift which can enhance our lives if lovingly cared for.
